Frequently asked questions
I can't hear the beat. What should I check?
Three quick checks: turn the volume up with the side buttons, make sure the silent/ringer switch isn't on silent, and disconnect forgotten Bluetooth headphones. In the app, tap the Audio pill at the top — it plays a test chime and tells you if sound is reaching the speaker.
What do the colours mean when I tap?
Each tap is compared with the exact moment of the beat. Locked means you were within 15 milliseconds — right on the beat. Solid means within 50 milliseconds. Drifting means a little further away — and that's okay; it's what practice is for. Words and shapes always accompany the colours.
Is my child's data private?
Completely. The app has no account, no ads, no analytics, and makes no network requests. Every session is stored only on your device, and you can delete everything at any time from About → "Clear all history." Read the full privacy policy.
What is the "Coach" note after a session?
It's a short, encouraging summary of your practice. On newer iPhones and iPads it's written by Apple Intelligence directly on your device — nothing is sent anywhere. On older devices, a built-in summary based on your own patterns does the same job. You can turn insights off in Setup.
Which devices does Beatrx support?
iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later — that covers devices back to 2018 — plus an Apple Watch companion for starting a session on your wrist. Apple Intelligence coaching needs a device that supports it (iOS 26+); everything else works everywhere, including the built-in coaching notes.
How do I download Beatrx?
Beatrx is available on the App Store for iPhone and iPad (iOS 17 or later). Download it from the App Store, or search "Beatrx" in the App Store app.
Can Beatrx treat my child's ADHD or autism?
No — and we won't pretend otherwise. Beatrx is a practice tool inspired by rhythm-based methods that therapists have used for decades. It can be a helpful, calm part of a routine, but it does not diagnose or treat any condition. Please involve your therapist, teacher, or doctor; the app works best alongside them.
My tap timing feels off. Any tips?
Wired or low-latency headphones help you hear the beat most clearly. Find a quiet spot, start at 60 BPM, and try short sessions first. If you use Bluetooth speakers, a small constant delay is normal — the app compensates for your device's reported audio latency, but some accessories add their own.
